Roofing time tracking for a new roof every few days

A roofing crew tears off and reshingles a house in one to three days, then moves on. Rain stops the work halfway, a repair gets squeezed in between two jobs, and Friday's timesheet tries to remember it all. GEOTT sets up each roof in seconds, checks every punch against it, and bills only the workers who actually clocked in that month.

On a roof the sky is open, so clock-in readings are usually close to the real position.

Why is tracking time hard for roofing companies?

Because the job site changes every few days and nobody from the office is on the roof. A crew of five can work four houses and a repair in one week, plus half a rain day. Paper sheets turn that into round numbers. GEOTT records each punch on the roof it belongs to, at the moment it happens.

How fast can a roofing crew start on a new job?

In under a minute. The owner or a foreman with admin rights opens GEOTT at the house, taps "I'm here" to create the site from their own position, keeps the suggested radius and assigns the crew. The crew taps clock-in. From then on every punch on that roof is checked against its circle.

  1. Create on site

"I'm here" uses the admin's position once. Or type the address from the office the night before.

  2. Assign the crew

Pick the crew; the job shows up in their list. Reminders go out at the start time you set.

  3. Clock in

One tap per worker. Valid inside the circle; outside it is refused or flagged, your choice.

  4. Close the job

When the roof is done, close the project: no more punches, history kept for warranty questions.

What does a roofing week look like in GEOTT?

A sample week with invented jobs for a crew of five: three re-roofs, one repair and a rain stop on Wednesday. GEOTT shows 170 hours across four jobs, with Wednesday's half day recorded as worked time instead of a full day or a blank.

Sample data: crew of five, one week

Rain days, long summer days and overtime after 40 hours a week are counted with the rules you set once. The step-by-step explanation of any total is on the features page.

What radius fits a residential roofing job?

A small one. Roofs have open sky, where phones are typically accurate to about 4.9 m (16 ft) according to GPS.gov. A 50 m (165 ft) circle around a house covers the lot, the driveway with the dumpster and the curb where the truck parks, without reaching the neighbor's yard across the street.

More on sizing: geofence time tracking.

Starting points for roofing jobs

Commercial flat roof150 m (about 490 ft)

How much does GEOTT cost for a roofing company?

$7 per worker who clocked in during the month. Two crews of five cost $70 in a busy month; in January, with one crew working repairs, $35. Nothing per job, nothing for admins, no annual plan, so the bill follows the season instead of a contract.

Roofing questions

What is the best time clock app for roofing crews?

One where a new job takes seconds to set up, each punch is checked on that roof, and a slow season costs less on its own. GEOTT does those for $7 per active worker. It opens from a link on any phone, without an app store.

Can the crew create the job themselves?

Only admins create sites, so a worker can't invent a job site. Give your foreman admin rights if they're the one who arrives first; "I'm here" then reads their position once to place the site. Workers' positions are never used to create sites.

How are rain days recorded?

As they happen: the crew clocks out when work stops, and the hours worked before the rain are on the job. If someone forgets to clock out, the session closes on its own after the limit you set, with a flag for you to check.

Do I have to tell the crew about GPS clock-in?

Yes. Some states require written notice of electronic monitoring. GEOTT shows each worker a notice to confirm before the first punch. Read the state rules in is GPS tracking of employees legal?

Which other crews use GEOTT?

Any company whose people start the day on a job site instead of in an office. Each page takes one trade, its typical day and the radius that fits its sites.

How do I try GEOTT on my next roof?

Create your next job with "I'm here" when you arrive, send the crew the link and let them clock in for the trial. After two weeks you'll have every roof's hours. The trial lasts 15 days, needs no credit card and ends without an automatic bill.
